The Antoine Griezmann saga is slowly but surely coming to a close. Atletico Madrid’s superstar is already set to leave the club but his next destination is pretty much unknown.
However, the Sun have reported that Manchester United are preparing a last gasp offer with the Red Devils ready to cough up an incredible £95m to acquire the services of the French World Cup winner this summer.
If they somehow manage to pull this off, it would be a huge deal for them and set a new club-record transfer fee. So, here are two main reasons why United should definitely splash the cash on Griezmann…
There’s almost no one better available on the market
Griezmann is very much among the very best players in the world. Voted as the third best player in the Ballon d’Or rankings last year, this forward is also a coveted World Cup winner and an extremely proficient forward.
If Manchester United are currently looking for a forward, there’s almost no one that can match Griezmann’s quality and currently availability. Yes, the £95m sum the Sun are reporting sounds like a lot but Atletico’s superstar is very much worth the hassle.
Griezmann scored 15 goals and provided eight assists in his latest La Liga campaign with Los Rojiblancos in a total of 37 appearances. This ranked him as eighth among the top scorers in Spain, which is relatively low for someone of his pedigree, but it’s still more than any Manchester United player achieved in the Premier League last time out.
His aforementioned assist tally also proves he is more than capable of creating goals as well as scoring them, which is a trait invaluable to any team. If there’s even a slight chance of United getting Griezmann, they should definitely go all out for him.

United need a new superstar
Amid news that Romelu Lukaku might really be on his way out of the club, Griezmann immediately addresses the need for a new goalscorer to help share the burden with Marcus Rashford and to a lesser extent, Anthony Martial.
But with Paul Pogba being linked to former club Juventus as well, the Atletico star would also answer the call for a new superstar at Old Trafford – a poster boy off the pitch and a talisman on it. United appear more interested in signing young and promising players this summer, already acquiring the services of Swansea City’s Daniel James, but with some really big names moving on – which should give the Red Devils more than enough funds to afford Griezmann – a new focal point of the first team is needed as well.
Griezmann has shown at both domestic and international level that he’s more than capable of carrying a top-quality team by popping up in the important moments. For all the huge names at Old Trafford in recent years, none have quite managed to deliver when the club has needed them to most.
