Southampton fans have taken to Twitter to question why Ralph Hasenhuttl isn’t up for the Premier League Manager of the Month award, and rightly so.
The former RB Leipzig boss oversaw an excellent December for the Saints which merited three wins and a draw from six outings, helping the south coast side move out of the Premier League relegation zone – they now sit 12th with 25 points to their name, five points off the bottom three.
It represents an excellent turnaround for the club following their embarrassing 9-0 defeat to Leicester at the end of October, which left Southampton in 18th place with just eight points to their name from ten games.
Despite Southampton’s excellent December, the Austrian coach is nowhere to be seen on a three-man shortlist that includes Liverpool’s Jurgen Klopp, Manchester United’s Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and Watford’s Nigel Pearson.
Klopp oversaw five successive Premier League wins throughout December, while Pearson won two and drew two of his six games – additionally, Solskjaer helped United pick up four wins and two draws.
While you can’t really argue with Klopp and Solskjaer’s inclusion, Hasenhuttl achieved more than Pearson did in December and does deserve to be on the shortlist – however, let’s see what the Southampton fans on Twitter think…
The first fan got the reaction off to a stormer by making the slightly dramatic point that the “Premier League really does hate us” after Hasenhuttl was excluded from the shortlist.
Another called the Southampton boss’ exclusion “absolute madness” before expressing their surprise over Solskjaer being nominated.
Elsewhere, these two supporters described the Austrian not being on the shortlist as an “absolute joke” and also “laughable” – it’s safe to say that they’re not happy.
