Former Everton midfielder Leon Osman has called on the Merseyside club to spend £50m on Swansea City’s Gylfi Sigurdsson.
On Monday, it was reported by BBC Sport that the Toffees launched a £40m bid for the Icelandic international.
Swansea, who managed to avoid relegation from the Premier League last season, are believed to be holding out for £50m.
The staggering price tag would put off many teams, but the level of spending in the market has significantly risen over the years.
Everton themselves have parted with more than £100m on new faces, which include Jordan Pickford, Davy Klaassen, Henry Onyekuru, Michael Keane, Sandro Ramirez and Wayne Rooney.
There have been conflicting reports regarding the amount that the Toffees have tabled, with The Guardian claiming that the offer was closer to £45m.
From Osman’s point of view, he feels that Everton should bite the bullet and meet Swansea’s asking price to bring in their eighth signing of the summer.
He told talkSPORT:
“Sigurdsson’s price tag has become so much because Everton received so much for Lukaku. Swansea have seen Everton have got so much money in the coffers now and the price tag has been inflated.
“But I think once Everton offered £45m, it’s such an incredible amount that the £5m more won’t really be too much of a problem for them.
“I do think Everton will get him. It seems Koeman really wants him. £45million is an incredible offer and I think Everton will stretch that extra bit. I’ll be delighted to see him in a blue shirt.”
