The transfer window is just around the corner and the rumours and speculation are beginning to pick up speed.
Liverpool are one of the clubs who could be looking to add to the squad during the next few months, and it seems they have plenty of interest in Bundesliga stars. RB Leipzig’s Timo Werner and Borussia Dortmund’s Jadon Sancho have both been amongst those to have been linked with the Anfield outfit, as has Bayern Leverkusen’s Kai Havertz.
There are a number of clubs after the latter, in particular, including Chelsea, Barcelona and Real Madrid. A fee of €130m (£111m) has been mentioned in exchange for his services.
The seven-time Germany international operates mainly as an attacking midfielder. He has played 73 games there, according to those games where Transfermarkt has recorded his position, whilst the next closest is central midfield, where he has lined up on 24 occasions. Should he be used in that number 10 role, he would be of no use to Jurgen Klopp and co considering the German manager prefers to use a 4-3-3 formation.
Interestingly, though, he can also operate on the right wing, and to great effect. He may only have 12 matches in that position, but has managed to score nine goals, and he has also provided two assists. With a goal ratio of 0.75 per game, that is easily his most prolific role proportionately.
Mohamed Salah has taken up that spot since joining from AS Roma, and he has been a revelation. In the last two campaigns, he has picked up the Premier League’s Golden Boot on both occasions. However, he has been linked with a move to Real Madrid recently, which could see him depart.
Whilst Havertz may not have Salah’s raw pace, he has shown he has the ability to score regularly – he bagged 20 goals in all competitions for the Bundesliga outfit last term. His arrival, therefore, would cushion the blow of the potential departure of the Egypt international and may even be able to offer a similar output, albeit in a slightly different manner.
