According to reports on Mexican football website Don Tachon, via journalist Nicolas Romay, West Ham United have turned down Javier Hernandez’s request to leave the club and return to his homeland during the January transfer window.
What’s the word, then?
Well, Don Tachon explains how Romay claims that when David Moyes was appointed as the new Irons manager last week, Hernandez immediately wanted out because the duo didn’t have the best relationship when they worked together at Manchester United.
Don Tachon reports that the 29-year-old was keen to rejoin the club he started his career with – CD Guadalajara – but West Ham refused to let him leave for the second-half of the season despite the fact that he is keen to find his form before the 2018 World Cup in Russia next summer.
How has Hernandez done this season?
Not only has it been a disappointing campaign for the Irons – who lie in 18th position in the Premier League with the worst defensive record – but things haven’t been much better for the Mexico international.
The striker has scored four goals in 13 appearances in all competitions and despite starting all 11 of their top flight matches, he has sometimes been pushed out wide in order to accommodate Andy Carroll or Diafra Sakho in the starting line-up.
BT Sport pundit Steven Gerrard also criticised the 29-year-old for his lack of effort in the 4-1 defeat against Liverpool at the London Stadium before the international break, and that work rate will need to improve if he is to be a regular under Moyes.
Could he really go in January?
It seems unlikely given West Ham only signed him during the summer but if his performances fail to impress Moyes and he pushes for a move away, the Scot may decide to sell him and use the funds to sign a player that will be 100% committed to playing for the east London outfit.
