Last week, Premier League clubs took the unprecedented step of voting to close the summer transfer window before the start of next season.
It follows a summer in which the uncertain futures of a number of key players – such as Alexis Sanchez, Philippe Coutinho and Virgil van Dijk – disrupted the selection plans of their respective managers, with many ruling themselves out as injured until the transfer window closed.
While the new deadline may reduce the risk of players moving late between Premier League rivals, however, other top flights will still be allowed to buy players from English clubs until the end of August, while the Football League are also yet to follow suit.
The new ruling wouldn’t have affected Manchester United’s transfer dealings during the summer – Jose Mourinho wrapped up all of his business with time to spare.
But, Red Devils fans, where do you stand on this one? Should the window close before the first game of the season or at the end of August? Let us know by voting below…
