One of the bargains of the season at just £3m, Fabian Schar established himself as a fan favourite on Tyneside thanks to a series of superb performances at the back. A thunderous strike against Burnley, which won him the club’s Goal of the Season, illuminated his quality as a forward-thinking central defender.
Picking up the ball from Javier Manquilo, the Switzerland international took one touch before lashing a 30-yard drive in off the near post, sending the St James’s Park faithful wild.
This was the highlight of Schar’s fantastic debut season in the Premier League.
