The following article is a special report; all information, unless otherwise stated, has been gleaned from Football FanCast sources.
Tottenham Hotspur have made a €25m (£21m) bid for PSV winger Steven Bergwijn, sources have told Football FanCast, but any move will not affect the club’s hunt for an out-and-out striker.
ESPN have reported that he will move to Spurs in this transfer window, though sources have communicated to FFC that the deal has yet to be agreed.
Nevertheless, Bergwijn has travelled to England with his agent, and manager Jose Mourinho is keen to snap up the 22-year-old.
There is also interest from Leicester City in the winger, who has scored five goals and registered 10 assists in 16 Eredivisie appearances this term.
Bergwijn can also play as an attacking midfielder and as a striker but one source familiar with the club’s recruitment has said that any move for the Netherlands international will not directly impact Tottenham’s pursuit of an out-and-out striker – meaning Spurs could strengthen their squad by signing both a winger and a centre-forward come the end of the month.
While his versatility appeals, Spurs remain keen to bring in a proper striker ahead of Friday’s transfer deadline, with Harry Kane out injured due to a serious hamstring issue.
The England captain could potentially miss the remainder of the season and Spurs have been offered a number of strikers in the January transfer window.
They have already signed midfielder Gedson Fernandes on loan from Benfica and are interested in AC Milan striker Krzysztof Piatek, while they have also held talks with Real Sociedad over the possible acquisition of Willian Jose.
The big fat Tottenham quiz of 2019 – how much do you remember about the last year at Spurs?
Thus, Spurs could potentially end the month with three new additions, should they manage to bring in Bergwijn and a striker in addition to Fernandes.
Mourinho’s side drew 1-1 with Southampton in the fourth round of the FA Cup on Saturday and sit sixth in the Premier League, six points behind fourth-placed Chelsea.
Meanwhile, Spurs fans have again hailed one of their outstanding stars!
